FAQ: Frequently asked questions about matcha
What is matcha?
Matcha is a finely ground powder made from high-quality green tea, which is traditionally produced in Japan. Unlike normal tea, with matcha you drink the entire tea leaf, making it particularly rich in nutrients and antioxidants.
What are the benefits of matcha?
Matcha provides concentrated antioxidants, especially EGCG, and contains L-theanine, which has a calming effect. In combination with caffeine, it promotes concentration, energy and well-being, without the nervous caffeine crash caused by coffee.
What does matcha taste like?
Good matcha tastes mild and slightly sweet. Depending on the quality, it can also be grassy or slightly bitter. Our Kami Matcha in Ceremonial Grade has a particularly smooth, balanced taste.
How do you prepare matcha?
Put 1-2 grams of matcha in a bowl, pour in about 70-80 ml of non-boiling water (approx. 80 °C) and stir with a bamboo whisk (chasen) in zigzag movements until a fine foam forms. Your matcha is ready!
What does a traditional matcha set consist of?
A traditional matcha set contains everything you need to prepare real matcha: a matcha bowl (chawan), a bamboo whisk (chasen), a bamboo spoon (chashaku) and often also a whisk holder (kusenaoshi). In our Kami Matcha Set you will find all these elements - stylishly coordinated and ideal for beginners and lovers of Japanese tea culture.
Is matcha really as healthy as everyone says?
Yes, high-quality matcha, such as our Ceremonial Grade Matcha, contains many antioxidants, especially EGCG, which can have an anti-inflammatory effect. It also provides L-theanine, which, together with caffeine, ensures a calm, clear focus. Matcha can support the immune system and contribute to overall health.
Can matcha help you lose weight?
Yes, matcha can slightly boost metabolism and promote fat burning through EGCG and caffeine. Studies show that green tea can increase calorie consumption.
How much caffeine does matcha have compared to coffee?
Matcha contains around 30-35 mg of caffeine per gram, which is equivalent to a cup of coffee in one serving. In contrast to coffee, however, the caffeine in matcha has a gentler and longer-lasting effect, as L-theanine ensures a more even release. Ideal for anyone who wants a calm but alert mind.
Is every green tea automatically matcha?
No, matcha is a very special green tea. It is made from shaded tea leaves that are gently ground into a fine powder. Our Ceremonial Grade Matcha is traditionally processed in Japan and therefore differs significantly in taste, effect and quality from conventional green tea.
Does milk distort the effect of matcha?
Cow's milk can slightly reduce the absorption of certain antioxidants in matcha. Plant-based milks such as oat, almond or rice milk hardly have this effect. If you want to experience the full effect of matcha, we recommend enjoying it pure or with plant-based milk.
How can you tell the difference between good and bad matcha?
Good matcha has a bright green color and tastes mild and slightly sweet. Poor matcha is often yellowish or brownish and tastes bitter or grassy. Our Ceremonial Grade Matcha impresses with its bright color, fresh note and particularly fine grind.
Can matcha cause hair loss?
No, matcha does not cause hair loss. On the contrary: the antioxidants and amino acids it contains can promote blood circulation and strengthen the hair roots. Regular consumption of high-quality matcha can therefore contribute to general hair and skin health.
Why is matcha so expensive?
The production of genuine Ceremonial Grade Matcha is laborious: The tea plants are shaded before harvesting, harvested by hand and gently ground. Only the most tender leaves are used, which ensures the particularly fine texture and unique taste. This quality justifies the higher price.
Is matcha allowed during pregnancy?
Matcha can also be enjoyed in moderate amounts during pregnancy as long as you respect the recommended daily amount of caffeine (max. 200 mg per day according to the recommendation). As our matcha comes from Japan and is processed particularly gently, you can continue to enjoy it in consultation with your doctor.
